TOP TEN TUESDAYS | I’ll have the Bookish Delight, please.

It’s been a month, y’all!

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday , we’re listing down the Top Ten Bookworm Delights.

Basically, things that make a bookworm happy. Stuff that bookworms appreciate the most. Some things and situations that a non-reader might not understand. XD Let’s see if we can make it to ten.

BWhen the book title appears in the text.
I’ve actually highlighted or tabbed a book where the title is mentioned. I’m the same with movies. I get all giddy when a character says the title. As in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, “Authority is not given to you to deny the return of the King, Steward!” Oh Gandalf. I’ve replayed that part so many times. I find that it happens less in books… or I’m just not paying close enough attention. LOL.
Finding gems at a used bookstore or thrift shop.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Unhauls happen left and right and sometimes, a first edition first print hard cover slips through the cracks. I’m surprised at how many first editions I have on my shelf and I do most, if not all, of my book shopping at used bookstores. My most recent used book haulage is my best one yet. I mean, that promotional copy of Red Rising by Pierce Brown is a GIFT to any Son of Ares!
Something related to book shopping, finding bookmarks and other odd and interesting things in used books. I admit, there are times when I peruse used book shelves just for that bookmark peeking out from between the pages. I still buy bookmarks and pick up free ones from random places but these ones are the most interesting. I once found a very old family picture in between pages. It’s Miss Peregrine level of creepy but that is what makes it interesting.
Meeting authors. (And finding out that they’re a fellow Slytherin.)
I’m lucky to live where there’s a thriving independent bookstore that even established authors love to visit. Thanks to Vroman’s Bookstore, I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Diana Gabaldon (she liked that my name is also “Catrina” – not “Caitriona” but you say it the same LOL) and fellow Stephen King fan, James Dashner. We bonded over the fact that we both love The Stand. And of course, VE Schwab. She’s so cool. And she’s a leftie Slytherin just like me. I plan to read all of her published work (so far) by the end of 2016.

When it hits you that the book you are reading is officially “un-putdown-able” and then you realize that it’s 3AM already.
This happened to me recently with Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry. Dang. Good thing it was a Friday night, er… Saturday morning. You’ll never know this happiness until it actually happens to you.
Reading in public.
I read Vicious and A Darker Shade of Magic both by VE Schwab in the middle of a public place. At the Captain America: Civil War red carpet premiere and outside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Studios Hollywood, respectively. Yup. Totally coincidental. Superpowers and magic. I swear, I did not do that on purpose. But I digress. I love reading in public because once you get into that good book, the world kind of like fades away. It doesn’t matter how noisy the next table at Starbucks is or how fast the train is going, you know you have a good book in your hands when you can ignore all that and immerse yourself in the words and characters.
Bookish tattoos.
Because I want one. I’m thinking of joining the club of those with the Deathly Hallows tattoo. That or a quote. I don’t know but it’s going to happen.
When a screen adaptation lifts whole passages from the source material.
I remember this happened with Outlander. There was a scene in the pilot episodes where the dialogue was quoted in verbatim from the book. I could be wrong but I seem to remember reading about it somewhere. It’s one thing to have a screen adaptation be faithful to the book. It’s another for a screenwriter to borrow the author’s exact words.
When you see a random person pick up a book that you love. And then you try not to go all fangirl-y and spew unsolicited advice and reviews lol. Understand that I don’t have a lot of people around me who read. I’m not talking about people who read as much as I do… just read in general. Sad, I know. But that’s the truth. Seeing a younger person actively looking for books at B&N gives me so much hope for mankind.
